What are the symptoms of bad piston rings in a Mustang?

Hey folks, I’ve been getting some smoke out of my tailpipe, and I’m starting to worry it’s the piston rings. What are the symptoms of bad piston rings, and how urgent is this to fix? Is it going to wreck my engine if I drive it like this for a while?
