What happens if the sway bar breaks while driving a Mustang?

So, I’ve heard that if your sway bar breaks while driving, it’s a bad day. Can someone explain exactly what happens if that goes down? I imagine it’s not a fun experience, but I’m not sure how dangerous it really is. I’ve got a Mustang and I’ve been hearing some clunking noises lately, so I’m kinda paranoid now.
